Tracker boats with no Versatrack mounting rail or Fiberglass bass boats (Nitro etc) are best fitted by Mounting of the Baseplate on top of a pedestal. Used when the gunnel is less than 7-8 inches (approx) from the boats casting deck. This mounting will keep the downrod in a very user friendly location as you are turning the downrod while watching the sonar returns on the screen.
Plan sufficient span of the baseplate to get the cup over the edge of the rub rail outside the boat.
- 10 inch baseplates:Â Only on older 175 Classic Tracker with no Versatrack – these boats have a 1 inch wide top rail.
- 12 inch baseplates: 4 inch span across gunnel. Typical for Pro, Pro Team, and other Modified V series.
- 15 inch baseplates: 7 inch span across gunnel. Typical for Nitro Z series and equivalent.
- 18 inch baseplates:Â Targa boats when mounted behind windshield – else use 15 inch in front of windshields.
All mounting systems include 12 thumbscrews to hold the baseplate to the pedestal or other mounting as well as a plastic coated stainless steel tether to hold the baseplate to the boat. Should the downrod hit something in the water and cause the baseplate to break away from the mounting, the baseplate will follow the downrod overboard and into the lake. If you do not wish to dive for your baseplate, the cable is the best means to hold the baseplate to the boat.
